Quitting smoking is not an easy feat. But the good thing is that it’s doable. To stop smoking, (especially if you’ve been smoking for years) is a major commitment and an incredibly positive step to a longer and healthier life. If you’re like most smokers, you’d probably tried to quit before. And like many not successful at that. But that’s not a reason for you to disregard your plans to stop smoking. In fact, a failure must be your drive to succeed.
Every smoker, at one point or another, wants to call it quits with this vice. But not everyone, at least in the beginning, has the proper motivation and discipline to stop smoking. But if you really think about and it and realize that there’s really nothing good or advantageous with smoking, you’ll easily concede that it’s not a habit that you’d want not to stick to.
The first step for you to stop smoking is to make the decision to quit. Once you decide that you want to quit, you take it from there. Try imagining how you’d look and feel without puffing cigarettes as if you’re an addict. The ripple effects of stop smoking are tremendous. The moment your body and mind accept the fact that you’ve finally quit, you’ll feel rejuvenated in an instant. Of course, the first few days are not going to be easy. But even during the rough times you can already feel that you’re physically, mentally and spiritually rejuvenated.
You know that you’re ready to stop smoking when you’ve decided that quitting smoking is one of the most important goals in your life. If you really want to stop smoking, you’ll make it a priority. Furthermore, you’ll know that it’s the right decision when you accept the fact that in order to get ahead and get more of the things you want to accomplish in personal life and work, you will be willing to make sacrifices. In addition, stop smoking will make you feel a responsibility not only to yourself but to your family, friends and even pets. When you decide to quit smoking, you’re making a positive choice to stay longer with your loved ones and to maximize the potentials of your life.
There are a lot of methods that a smoker can choose from to stop smoking. Traditional methods include going cold turkey or gradual quitting. You choose which method suits your personality and lifestyle. If you want to quit smoking immediately and without looking back, cold turkey is your best bet. But be forewarned, it’s not a method for the weak and undisciplined. You must also inform your loved ones if you’re going to try cold turkey since this will hugely affect your mood. As for the gradual quitting, this one is more of the “slowly but surely” type. You decrease your cigarette puff everyday. You’ll also feel withdrawal effects on this one but if you’re disciplined, you won’t cheat yourself. Whichever method you choose to stop smoking is good for you because the mere fact that you’re already deciding the method means you’re willing to change.
